[CBS News Texas] Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was sentenced in Dallas County for the multi-car crash on US-75. Rice pleaded guilty to collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury.
[Reporter] The sentence includes 30 days in jail, five years of probation, and restitution of more than $115,000. Rice said in a statement that he has had sleepless nights thinking about the damage his actions caused, that he will keep working to make everyone impacted whole, and that he is profoundly sorry for the harm caused to innocent drivers and their families.
[Reporter] Rice was one of two people charged after the March 30, 2024 crash on North Central Expressway near University Boulevard. Investigators said Rice was driving a Lamborghini and Theodore "Teddy" Knox was driving a Corvette. Both vehicles were speeding in the far-left lane when the Lamborghini hit the median wall, causing four other vehicles to collide.
[Reporter] The arrest affidavit said Rice was driving 119 miles per hour before the crash. Knox was driving 91 miles per hour. Since the crash, victims have filed civil lawsuits, including claims seeking compensation for injuries and other losses.
[Reporter] The criminal case has now ended, but civil accountability remains. Attorney Marc Lenahan represents Kathryn Kuykendall, one of the people hurt in the crash, and has said his client is prepared to pursue collection if the civil settlement is not paid.
